The University of the Basque Country acquires nature of its current charter in 1980, on the precedent of the former University of Bilbao and inspired by the Basque University in 1936. It adopts an emblem designed by Eduardo Chillida and incorporates the same verse of a famous Iparragirre-Eman ta zabal zazu-which refers to the universal vocation of Basque culture. Today the University of the Basque Country shows a thriving reality. Composed of more than 50,000 people, accounts for 95% of research that takes place in the Basque Country and has already
generated a quarter of a million graduates in the most diverse areas of knowledge.
Distributed on three campuses - one for each of the historical territory of the current Basque Autonomous Community-grouping 31 colleges and schools, the University of the Basque Country made a decisive contribution to the reality of the Basque Country, to the extent that it would be Today inconceivable without the daily input of this institution and without the rich and intense intellectual debate that is generated around him. |

Scientific activity within PCAM:
The activities of the group are framed in the fields of nanostructures, biomolecules, and advanced materials. In these projects we combine basic research and applications, as well as transfer of knowledge. Recent work address: fundamental aspects of time-dependent density functional theory and many-body perturbation theory, properties of carbon nanotubes and other organic and inorganic materials: nanowires, quantum dots and supramolecular structures; excited state dynamics and optical spectroscopy of biochromophores and other complex bio-structures, hybrids bio/nano-structures and molecular electronics. The group active in the development of the ETSF.
